The English Education BA degree gives students crucial insights into teaching English in grades 6-12 in Utah public and private schools. Students build on a foundation of rigorous theory and practice to develop pedagogical skills and subject area expertise for effective teaching of English. In addition to a range of literature and writing courses, students complete methods courses that focus on specific strategies to teach the four Utah State Core strands: reading, writing, speaking/listening, and language. Additional training for students in the English Education degree program includes topics such as educational psychology, multicultural instruction, effective classroom management, and curriculum development and assessment. <h2>Matriculation Requirements</h2> <p><span>Secondary Education Matriculation Requirements:</span></p> <p><span>1. GPA of 3.0 or higher with no grade lower than a C in content area courses.  </span></p> <p class="descriptor"><span>2. Completion of all General Education requirements and 70% of content area courses.  </span></p> <p class="descriptor">3. Pass LiveScan Criminal Background Check.  </p> <p class="descriptor">4. ENGL 2010 and MATH QL courses must have a grade C or higher.</p>
